At about 7 years old, most children can separate fantasy from reality and they are beginning to understand a spiritual dimension that exists alongside the physical. This is a wonderful time to emphasis prayer. Prayer is talking to the real and living God. Through conversation children build a relationship with God. Children are shown that prayer is more than asking God for things, but includes worship, confession, requests for others, for protection, and for our needs. Part of this teaching includes learning the Lord’s Prayer and reciting it for the congregation. In mid-winter, the 2nd Graders gather with their parents/guardians to celebrate their growth as praying children.
