Monday: The First Reading

Monday

The First Reading

Start with prayer. Ask God to impart wisdom to your mind, ask Jesus to relate the words to your soul, and ask the Holy Spirit to illumine your heart to their words.

Slowly read the passages below. Read them out loud if possible.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5:

4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.

Matthew 3:16-17:

16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Read the passages out loud one more time.

Read it once more, this time noting (by circling, highlighting, or underlining) those words or phrases that stand out to you. Mark them in your Bible.

Spend five minutes meditating on those words or phrases.

That is all for today.

End in prayer. Ask God to impart wisdom to your mind, ask Jesus to relate the words to your soul, and ask the Holy Spirit to illumine your heart to their words.
