TEDS ID6000 The Political Disciple: Thinking Christianly in a Tumultuous World

Dr. Vincent Bacote, from Wheaton College, will be speaking at Eastbrook Church on September 28 at 7 pm and will teach a corresponding 1-Credit Wrap-Around Course at Eastbrook Church on Saturday, October 17 from 8:30 am-3 pm.

Instructor: Dr. Vincent Bacote is an Associate Professor of Theology and the Director of the Center for Applied Christian Ethics at Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. He is the author of the The Political Disciple: A Theology of Public Life (2015), The Spirit in Public Theology: Appropriating the Legacy of Abraham Kuyper (2005), and has contributed to books including On Kuyper (2013), Aliens in the Promised Land (2013), Keep Your Head Up (2012) and Prophetic Evangelicals (2012). He is a regular columnist for Comment Magazine and contributes to other magazines, including Books and Culture, Christianity Today, Think Christian and re:generation quarterly, and journals such as Christian Scholars Review, Urban Mission and the Journal for Christian Theological Research. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and the Society of Christian Ethics. Learn more about Dr. Bacote on his website, vincentbacote.com.

Course Description: This course will focus on how a Christian can live faithfully in an increasingly polarized world. In the midst of the combative rhetoric found in our culture, is there a place for a Christian to engage in the public square modeling Christlikeness and fidelity to God’s Word? The course will seek to address the perceived tension between allegiance to a nation and ultimate faithfulness to God’s Kingdom. You must attend both the public lecture on Monday, September 28 at 7 pm and the Saturday class.

Auditing Information: For a much reduced fee, you can audit a class. This opportunity provides the audit student the abundance of information that is offered to the class but does not carry with it the requirements of doing the academic work. We, of course, encourage you to do the work, but no grades are assigned. To audit the October 17 wrap-around course with Dr. Bacote, Eastbrook Church is offering a substantial discount to TEDS participants. The cost to audit this one credit opportunity is only $20/student and is limited to ten students who sign-up.
