Anatomy of a Sermon

We may not think too hard about much of what we’ve come to expect at church on a Sunday morning. If you attend Eastbrook regularly, maybe elements of the service have become routine; you might know certain songs by heart, or recognize rhythms in the cadence of prayer and worship.

Without question each Sunday, service-goers can expect to hear from the preaching pastor. Whether listening in person or watching online, the congregation receives a message which they can follow along on a printed outline. That’s what we see, the end result of weeks’ worth of work; how do we get there?

If you have ever wondered about what goes on behind the scenes of a Sunday sermon, here is your guide. Senior Pastor Matt Erickson walks us through the process, from choosing a topic to delivering a message to our Eastbrook family.
