Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
What is a Disciple?
A disciple is following Jesus, being changed by the Holy Spirit, and committed to the mission of God.
Discipleship is a journey — a call to follow Jesus Christ and live according to His teachings. This journey is marked by a transformative process that involves learning, growth, and commitment to the principles of the Christian faith.
DISCIPLESHIP PATHWAY:
To help us make sense of that journey, here at Eastbrook we use something called the Discipleship Pathway, which helps us understand various stages of discipleship:
(Use the buttons below to navigate to the 5 stages of faith on the Discipleship Pathway)
Core Values of Discipleship:
We believe that growth as a disciple…
- has a cost, but non-discipleship has a greater cost
- is a journey, not an event or program
- is God’s work, but requires our participation
- will engage us in spiritual warfare
- involves all aspects of our lives, not just “spiritual” things
- will vary from person to person, both in approach and impact
- is aided by historically-recognized spiritual practices
- is ultimately reflected in an increased capacity to love God and others
Your Own Personal Journey
“Where am I really on my journey with god?”
Llke any journey, if we don’t know where we are, it’s hard to chart the path forward.
We encourage the Eastbrook family to chart their discipleship journey and identify where they find themselves right now. The Spiritual Health Reflection from “Practicing the Way” will help you thoughtfully examine your current relationship with Jesus and identify potential next steps in your journey.
