Our monthly Top Serving Needs email went out today

Our monthly Top Serving Needs email went out today and we wanted to highlight one need in particular. We are currently looking for 2 more adults to serve as “buddies” for 2 different Eastbrook kids who need some extra care and assistance during the 9:30 am service on Sunday mornings. Right now, one family isn’t able to worship together, and another buddy needs a helper.

Buddies are patient, gentle, attentive adults who are trained to work with one of the kids in our accessibility ministry. If you can help, reach out to Tom (tthoburn@eastbrook.org) today!

This time of year can be especially difficult for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one and those experiencing the pain of separation and divorce.

Next week we invite you to join us for special "Surviving the Holidays" sessions of GriefShare (Tuesday, November 12 from 6-8 pm in Holy Grounds), DivorceCare and Divorce Care for Kids (Monday, November 11 from 6:30-8:30 pm).

This is what church is about—holding each other up and caring for each other when life gets hard. Share this post with anyone who may need one of these safe spaces to process grief and/or divorce.

This Sunday is our annual combined worship service with Eastbrook Academy at 8, 9:30 & 11 am!

After the 11 am service, at around 12:30 pm, the staff from EBA will host an open house and tour. Plan to meet at 12:30 pm in the Main Lobby. Tour the Academy and learn more about our 25 years of developing the next generation of Christ-like leaders. Don’t miss it!

These wise words that Pastor Matt shared on his blog on Election Day 2020 still apply to us today in 2024:

1. Pray – We know as believers that God works through prayer. We know that our calling includes praying for those in authority. Because of these things, we should pray that the elections will be guided by God, that safety and peace will reign, and that all the candidates up for public office will be strengthened by God regardless of their political party.

2. Think Biblically – As followers of Christ we must always filter our actions through the truth of God as revealed in Scripture. We must remember that Jesus is our King and our allegiance is first and foremost to His kingdom. The kingdom of God is bigger than any political party. The kingdom of God is marked by grace, truth, righteousness, and justice.

3. Vote – It is a huge privilege in our country to have a voice in the political process. So many of my friends from around the world do not have this privilege where they live. One aspect of Paul’s instructions about our relationship to governing authorities in Romans 13 is to exercise our right to vote. I encourage every follower of Jesus to take up this privilege.

4. Maintain Perspective – In the coming days, there will be some of us whose candidate wins and some of us whose candidate loses. For those whose candidate wins, we may be tempted to believe this victory is the answer for our country. For those whose candidate loses, we may be tempted to believe this outcome is the worst reality for our country. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we must maintain clear perspective that our hopes are not tied to a candidate, policy, country, or kingdom.

5. Love One Another – Scripture affirms again and again that we are called as followers of Christ to love one another and stand in unity. Jesus Himself said that people would know we are His disciples if we love one another. Let us put on love, which binds all things together in perfect unity” so that, as brothers and sisters in Christ, we might uphold the unity forged through the broken body and spilled blood of Jesus Christ.
