(Luke 19:1-10)
DISCUSSION GUIDE
- When was a time that you wanted to uncontrollably celebrate something? What happened? How did people respond?
- This week, we are celebrating God’s grace and truth in the Big Block Bash. We will look at Luke 19:1-10. Before you read that passage aloud, take a moment to pray, asking God to guide and speak to you in this study.
- Jesus is on his way from Galilee to Jerusalem in his final weeks. What is significant about this?
- In this passage there are a number of things we learn about Zacchaeus. List some of the things you observe about Zacchaeus, such as his physical description, occupation, attitudes, etc.
- What do you think it was about Jesus’ person, teaching (see Luke 18:9-14) or previous actions (see Luke 18:35-43) that might have led Zacchaeus to become so eager to meet Jesus?
- What catches your attention about Jesus’ interactions with Zacchaeus in this passage as described in verse 5?
- How would you describe the peoples’ reaction to Jesus and Zacchaeus in verse 7? Why do you think this was their reaction?
- How would you describe Zacchaeus’ response to Jesus’ invitation?
- Would you say you are more like Zacchaeus or the crowd in your response to Jesus these days? Why or why not?
- What is one thing you will take away from this study to help you grow with God? If you are alone, write it down somewhere. If you are with a group, share that with one another.
