- This weekend at Eastbrook, we continue in our summer series, “Luke: Stories Worth Living.” Ask God to speak to you before reading Luke 12:13-21 aloud.
- If you could go back in time and bring to Jesus 1 issue or 1 question, what would that be?
- The unnamed man in Luke 12 brings to Jesus a dispute he has about an inheritance. Does this indicate anything about the man? Discuss.
- Read the initial reaction that Jesus gives in verse 14. Is there a hint of frustration in his response? Why do you believe Jesus reacted this way?
- In the parable of the rich fool, we read about a successful businessman. In verses 17-19, the many is talking to himself about himself. What is the problem you see with his attitude?
- When you focus all your thoughts and energy on goals on yourself, what are you missing?
- What is the heart of the fool set on? What is the fool chasing/pursuing? What does the fool believe will bring security? What is the fool thankful for?
- The story worth living in this passage is of a person who is RICH in GOD. What is the heart set on? What does a truly rich person pursue? Where is this persons’ security? What is this type of person thankful for?
- What are truths that we need to learn from this parable? How do we live a story worth telling in a culture that prioritizes possessions, money, power, and security?
- Take time and close in prayer for one another.
