DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Have you ever had doubt become present in your life of faith? When doubt is present in your life, how does it influence you?
  2. This weekend we conclude “The Kingdom Life” series by looking at Luke 24:36-53. After beginning your study in prayer, ask God to speak to you, and then read those passages aloud.
  3. Jesus has risen from the grave and conquered death. Why do you think that doubt and trouble is still present in the minds of the disciples?
  4. How did Jesus show grace to the disciples in how he spoke to them?
  5. The disciples felt that Jesus had left them and that life was not the same. Why might they have had the feeling that Jesus left them empty-handed? Have you ever had a time in your life where you felt that God had forgotten you or left you to deal with life alone?
  6. Jesus provided proof that he never leaves people empty-handed (vs. 39-49). List examples that Jesus provided that provided his disciples with this truth.
  7. Verse 45 states that Jesus opened their minds so that they could understand Scripture. Have you ever an experience where Jesus opened your mind to Scripture? Describe and discuss. Do you believe that Jesus is still in the business of opening minds in this manner?
  8. Jesus promises a gift of the Holy Spirit. How does this promise of Jesus require the disciples to respond in faith? What changes that allows the disciples to respond in faith, rather than doubt?
  9. Prior to this encounter, the disciples can be described as doubting, troubled, and scared. After the encounter and after Jesus ascends, how words would you use to describe the disciples?
  10. Do you believe that Jesus will never leave you empty-handed? How can you as a group trust Jesus more, have faith in times of doubt, and hold onto the truths and promises of Jesus Christ?
