Exploring the seven “I am” statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John, this Easter season we want to encounter Jesus again for the first time. Drawing upon the Gospel context and Old Testament history, we want to step more deeply into what Jesus was saying then and what it means for our life with God today.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
Summary of John 15:1-11
- God the Father is the gardener of our spiritual lives
- Jesus is the true vine
- The Holy Spirit reveals to us ways we need to be pruned Jesus is the true vine
Jesus wants us to remain in Him
Jesus is pointing us to God the Father
Jesus wants our joy to be made complete

- Read John 15:1-11. If you can read it in a couple different translations. What words or phrases stand out to you?
- We talked on Sunday about the pruning process. When is a time in your life that you went through a pruning process? What did it feel like? What did you learn in this time?
- Jesus instructs us to remain in Him several times in this passage. What are practical ways you can remain in Jesus?
- Vs 10 talks about Jesus keeping the Father’s commands. What do you think those specific commands are?
- Vs 11 says “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”How does the joy Jesus promises differ from earthly happiness or joy?
- What barriers in your life keep you from getting to know Jesus at a deeper level?
