This week we look at a series of miraculous stories, other than healings, that display Jesus’ mission from Luke 8 and 9.
SERMON OUTLINE
In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.” (Luke 8:25b)
The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.” So the man went away and told all over town how much Jesus had done for him. (Luke 8:38-39)

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- What is the scariest physical storm you have ever lived through?
- We continue the series “Jesus on the Move” by looking at an extended teaching from Jesus. Before you begin this study, ask God to speak to you from His Word. Then, whether you are alone or with a group, read Luke 8:22-39 aloud.
- Jesus is asleep on a boat when a storm hits. He stays asleep. Why do you think Jesus was such a deep sleep while on the boat? What might we be able to learn about the difficulty of the ministry of Jesus, as he was on the move from town to town?
- While Jesus was asleep, the disciples were not. How did they first react in the storm? When did they finally turn to Jesus (who was still asleep mind you)? How are we similar to the disciples in the storms of our life?
- In the hopeless place, the power of Jesus is shown and he commands the wind and raging waters to stop. Why were the disciples shocked (Jesus has already done many miracles)?
- Time after time, the disciples were astonished by the power of Jesus and they see him in a new way? Has Jesus done miracles in your life that were amazing?
- In vss 30-31, Jesus has an interaction with the demons? What is the demons view of Jesus? Is it possible that we could learn from them?
- Jesus shows power over spiritual forces in a miraculous way and saves 1 hopeless man in this area. Jesus is then promptly rejected by all the people. What does this rejection say about the people that reject Jesus? How does Jesus react to the rejection? What might we be able to learn from how Jesus handles rejection?
- Why do you think the demon-possessed man wanted to go with Jesus? Why do you think Jesus refused his request?
- Jesus travels into a dangerous place to perform a miracle in the life of one man. What does this indicate about the passion Jesus has for people? How might we have the same urgency to bring hope to people in our daily lives?
