To date there is no working theory of human history that can predict the future. What we have, though, is much better. We have the written and incarnate promises of God. God hasn’t given us “when” but he has given us “soon!” Soon, evil will cease with the ending of this age. Soon the living will be gathered to God’s bosom and the rebellious to their second death. Soon the redeemed will look and live like their Redeemer.
(Psalm 23; Luke 9:23-24; John 10; 1 Corinthians 2:24; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)
Sermon Outline
To date there is no working theory of human history that can predict the future. What we have, though, is much better. We have the written and incarnate promises of God. God hasn’t given us “when” but he has given us “soon!” Soon, evil will cease with the ending of this age. Soon the living will be gathered to God’s bosom and the rebellious to their second death. Soon the redeemed will look and live like their Redeemer. In the meantime, purify your thinking and your living as you:
Purely Worship Christ
- As He is the Wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 2:24)
- All of time is filled with Him
- All of Father’s plans to make perfect images depends on Him
- As He is the Power of God (John 10:14)
- To save from sin and wrath and death and emptiness
Purely Wait on Christ
- After each prayer as He takes time to answer by:
- satisfying our hunger for God (1Thessalonians 5:23-24)
- bringing peace within reach
- restoring our souls from selfish to godly
- leading us into right living
- through death with all the rest
- past our great enemies
- through the overflow of the Spirit
Purely Walk with Christ
- Out of our anointing (Psalm 23:5)
- as neighborhood prophets
- as neighborhood priests
- as neighborhood princes
- Into Father’s heart forever
